General Rules

  • Everyone 16 and older needs a valid Minnesota fishing license, on you at all times.
  • One line per angler while open-water fishing (limited exceptions apply).
  • Possession limit equals the daily limit — you can't stockpile fish at the cabin.
  • Fish must be kept whole (or with skin on for fillets) while transported on the water.
  • Live bait may not be released into the lake, and don't move water between lakes.
  • Drain livewells and bilge, pull the plug, and remove all vegetation before trailering.
  • Immediately release any fish inside a protected slot — do not put it in the livewell.
  • Angling hours for walleye are open 24 hours; night fishing is legal and productive.
